Biography

BENJAMIN ABBOTT, b. at Andover, 7 Jun 1770^[1] son of Jonathan Abbott and Mary Chandler; d. at Andover, 20 Oct 1835;^[2] m. at Andover, 26 Nov 1793,^[3] his first cousin, RHODA CHANDLER, b. 2 Mar 1774^[4] daughter of Nathan and Phebe (Abbott) Chandler; Rhoda d. 19 Mar 1853.^[5]

Benjamin Abbott and Rhoda Chandler were parents of seven children all born at Andover.

Son Jonathan Abbott did not marry, and his estate entered probate 1 May 1838 with Solomon Abbott (perhaps his uncle) as administrator. Jonathan was a cordwainer and his personal estate was valued at $3,623.18. Heirs receiving equal payments of $404.58 were Ebenezer Ricker, Benjamin Abbot, Nathan C. Abbott, Daniel Knowlton (his payment $408.36), and Solomon Holt.^[6]

ii RHODA ABBOTT, b. 24 Oct 1796; d. at Concord, NH, 5 Nov 1871; m. at Andover, 18 Nov 1817, DANIEL KNOWLTON, b. at Concord, 14 Jan 1795 son of Robert and Ede (Allen) Knowlton; Daniel d. at Concord, 6 Jan 1874. After Rhoda’s death, Daniel married the widow Mrs. Ruth Knowlton.

iii PHEBE ABBOTT, b. 27 Nov 1798; d. at Andover, 18 Oct 1872; m. at Andover, 25 Nov 1824, her fourth cousin, SOLOMON HOLT, b. at Andover, 1799 son of Solomon and Mary (Cummings) Holt; Solomon d. at Andover, 3 Apr 1883.

iv JONATHAN ABBOTT, b. 15 Nov 1801; d. at Andover, 8 Mar 1838. Jonathan did not marry.
