Enlisted: 1861
Mustered out: mmm dd, yyyy
Side: CSA
Regiment(s): Co. H 38th Virginia Infantry

George W. Abbott was born about 1841 in Pittsylvania, Virginia to Isaac B. Abbott(1810 Va) and Louisa Corbin Abbott(1812 Va).

In 1850 in Pittsylvania, George is noted with parents, and the following children shown, with estimated birth year by census:

  1. Sarah 1840
  2. GEORGE 1843
  3. Eliza 1845
  4. Richard 1846
  5. James 1849
  6. Chesley 1850

An 1860 census for north Pittsylvania shows a GW Abbott, born about 1842, in the home of Jabez Gravely, both working on a tobacco farm.

George Abbott would enlist in the CSA in 1861, and serve in the 38th Virginia Infantry, rank Sergeant. "Confederate Soldiers of Pittsylvania & Danville" by Mike K. Williams notes he died in Manassas in 1861. There is a profile for George on FamilySearch that has a death record attached noting August 18, 1867 in Manassas; speculating a typo there on the year.
