An 1860 census for north Pittsylvania shows a GW Abbott, born about 1842, in the home of Jabez Gravely, both working on a tobacco farm.
George Abbott would enlist in the CSA in 1861, and serve in the 38th Virginia Infantry, rank Sergeant. "Confederate Soldiers of Pittsylvania & Danville" by Mike K. Williams notes he died in Manassas in 1861.
