Ann Catharine Gilbert was born on 23 September 1823, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to John Abel and Mary Himes. ^[1]

She married Presmull Penn They had seven known children (and the 1900 census reports that Ann had had eight children, six of whom were living).
