Biography

George Abel was baptized 26 oct 1824 in Monymusk, the son of George Abel and Christian Horn. George married Barbara Smith 14 Nov 1867 in Kemnay. In the 1871 census , George, a Farmer of 205 acres, and his wife Barbara were living at Lauchintilly in Kemnay along with four servants. Barbara, age 57, died 15 Mar 1878 and is buried in the Kemnay Churchyard.
54 year old George married 30 year old Catherine Fraser on 10 Dec 1879 in Strathan, Forfarshire. Witnesses were George Fraser and George Unknown (cannot read spelling). In the 1881 census George and Catherine are living at Leylodge in Kintore along with their 6 month old daughter Agnes and one servant. In the 1891 census at East Leylodge, George and Catherine are with their children Agnes, Catherine, George, Janet S and John.
George, age 71, died 01 Jan 1896 at East Leylodge of pneumonia which he had for five days prior to his death. He is buried, along with both wives, at the Kemnay Churchyard. His wife Catherine died 12 Feb 1908.
