There is no record of this marriage and Catharine is not mentioned in any documents pertaining to Robert. In his will, Edward Abell provided a legacy to his grandson, Samuel Bean, which was equal to the legacy he divided between two of his Thomas grandchildren. The implication is that two of his daughters were deceased. Abell’s children are found in the baptismal records of Saint Andrew’s Parish, Saint Mary’s Co. (“Maryland Births and Christenings, 1650-1995,” database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/), ref. FHL microfilm 14,449). Three daughters, Jane, Catharine, and Eleanor are not named in Abell’s will. Eleanor was too young to be the second wife of Robert Bean; she married Enoch Spalding in 1799. Jane married Thomas Thomas, the parents of the two Thomas children who received $50 each in Abell’s will. Catharine is the only Abell daughter unaccounted for; Samuel Bean was the son of Robert Bean of Robert: therefore I have concluded that she was the first wife of Robert Bean and that Samuel was her only child.
