Subject: Re: Benjamin Walter Wilkinson Jim/Julie Pilon
My Benjamin Walter Wilkinson moved to DC during the early 1920's. I went to the cemetery he's buried at last week while I was visiting MD. The grave marker shows Benjamin W. Wilkinson 1880-1939 buried with his wife Anne L. Wilkinson (her maiden name was Wible)1879-1944, also buried with Amanda M. Wilkinson 1884-1964 and Elaine Wible 1904-1950. I know Elaine Wible was Anne L. Wilkinson's sister. My mother says that she remembers 'Aunt Mandy'(Amanda M. Wilkinson) and she thinks that Amanda was Benjamin's sister. Do you have any information about this? There was an Amanda Wilkinson born 2/1884 in Linda's information. Maybe this is her? I am really having a difficult time with my Benjamin Wilkinson! Thanks for the help! Julie Pilon ---------- Here's what I have on your family: John Philip Wilkinson, b. 1/9/1843. He would have been born at Hollywood, St. Mary's Co., MD. There is no town named St. John's but I'm sure that refers to St. John's Catholic Church which is located at Hollywood and the church most affiliated with the Wilkinson family. He died 12/8/1896 at Hollywood, MD and is buried at St. John's. He married Mary Agnes "Polly" Adams 2/12/1866 at St. John's. She was born Nov. 1844 and died 2/21/1901 and was the daughter of Alexander Adams and Mary Ellen Eliza Norris.
Their children:
1. Mary Louisa, b. 1866 and died 2/6/1888. She married Joseph C. Stone 2/2/1887 at St. John's.
2. George Alexander, b. 6/11/1868 and died 1/11/1878. All I had before your note was his name as Alexander (from the 1870 census) and born about 1867.
3. John Philip, Jr. b. 9/7/1869 and died 4/11/1935, buried at St. John's. He married Frances I. "Nannie" Yates 11/9/1890 at St. Nicholas RCC.
4. William Francis, b. 1871 and died 8/12/1924 in Baltimore. He's buried at St. John's. He married Esther C. ____.
5. Joseph Horace, b. 1873 and died 1970. He's buried at St. John's. He married Ann Virginia "Annie" Burch 8/11/1897 at St. Ignatius RCC.
6. Adam E. "Addie", b. 1877 and died after 1910. He married Catherine A. "Kate" Abell 1900/1910.
7. Amanda, b. 2/1884 and died after 1900 (1900 census).
8. Catherine A., b. 3/1886 and died after 1900 (1900 census).
This helps a great deal. Amanda is the key. I believe that Benjamin Walter was her brother and therefore, the son of John Philip Wilkinson and Mary Agnes Adams. Unfortunately, the 1890 census was all but lost when he would have been still young enough to be living with his parents. Trying to locate the parents of a person b. 1880 or so can be tricky for this reason and you need other sources to confirm it, unless of course, they're living with the parents in 1900. By the time 1900 had rolled around, John Philip Wilkinson had died and Mary Agnes (Adams) was living with her son John. Obituary of John Philip Wilkinson. His death we sadly record today. He was the oldest brother of Senator Washington Wilkinson. Survived by his wife, 8 children, a sister, and 3 brothers. On the same date, there was another obituary--John P. Wilkinson d. at his home near St. John's Church on the 7th instant in the 53rd year of his age. Buried in St. John's graveyard on Wednesday last. (The Enterprise, 2/12/1896). I was going through the children--note that the obituary stated he was SURVIVED by 8 children. Mary Louisa d. 1888 so she's out; George Alexander d. 1878 so he's out. That leaves living--John, William, Joseph, Adam, Amanda, and Catherine (previously). So, if the obituary was correct, there's two more and I believe, of course, that Benjamin Walter was one of them. I would be looking in two places. First, I'd get a death certificate for Benjamin Walter. It should surely list his parents. Do you have a copy of his marriage record? That could, as well. How about an obituary for him? Last, but not least, there may be administration accounts for John Philip Wilkinson, his father which may list his children. Incidentally, you gave me death dates but didn't state where they were buried--was it St. John's? Linda Reno [7] [2]

Hello: Thanks for the Wilkinson bible information. Here are some notes I have (I'm not from a Wilkinson ancestor...at least of now!) Death Certificate 3/6/1917, Claude (Geo.Claude) Abell signed as witness for death certificate of William Wilkinson, age 67, lived in Hollywood, son of Washington Wilkinson & Rebecca Greenwell. Witnesses to wedding of Geo.Claude Abell and Leila C. was John L. Abell. Leila was dau. of Wm. T. Wilkinson and a niece of Senator Washington Wilkinson. Claude died 3/22/1928. He was the son of William E. ABELL & Jane Russell. One of Claude & Leila's dau.s became Sister Louise Stanislaus died 9/1990 in Conn. and I believe she is Alice Teresa Abell whom the bible mentions born 6/3/1906. William Edward Abell died 8/31/1982 and James Dawkins Abell died 6/23/1986. Another Abell/ Wilkinson was Catherine Abell (1857-1952), dau. of George Washington Abell and Maryan Isabella Stone.
