Ralph Abercromby was born October 7th, 1734 at Menstrie, Logie Parish as the oldest son of George Abercromby of Tulllibody, Clackmannanshire and Mary Dundas (daughter of Ralph Dundas of Manor)[1][2]

He served in the British Army from 1756 - 1801, and was noted for his services during the Napoleonic Wars. He achieved the rank of lieutenant-general. He served as Commander-in-Chief in Ireland.

He twice served as MP for Clackmannanshire, and he was appointed Governor of Trinidad.
