Ralph Abercromby was born October 7th, 1734 at Menstrie, Logie Parish as the oldest son of George Abercromby of Tulllibody, Clackmannanshire and Mary Dundas (daughter of Ralph Dundas of Manor)
He served in the British Army from 1756 - 1801, and was noted for his services during the Napoleonic Wars. He achieved the rank of lieutenant-general. He served as Commander-in-Chief in Ireland.
He twice served as MP for Clackmannanshire, and he was appointed Governor of Trinidad.
