John served as a Union soldier during the Civil War. He enlisted in the 2nd Heavy Artillery/112th Pennsylvania Volunteers on 17 February 1864.
John A. Able passed away on 13 July 1904 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The cause of death is unknown. He is buried in Uniondale Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania.[1][2]
