JOHN THOMAS ABLETT - SCHOOL MASTER and SPECTACLE MAKER.
John was baptised at St Albans Abbey on 13 September 1833. He was the son of William Ablett and Caroline Hare.
His family lived in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, where his father worked for a time, but by 1851 his widowed mother was running a Lodging House in St. Pancras, and John Thomas was a 19 year old assistant at a school. On the 1861 Census record, John Thomas was listed as an Assistant master in a public school and teacher of English Elementary Class (mathematics). His mother died in 1864.
He married in 1866 at St Pancras Church as a full age batchelor, schoolmaster, living in Islington (son of William Ablett, dead) and Alice Jane Hare was a spinster, minor, of St Pancras, (daughter of John Hare, dead).
By 1869, John Thomas was recorded as a spectacle maker and son of William Ablett, late of St. Albans, Herts, Clerk to the Court of Requests. Freedom of City document, declaring John Thomas to be over 21 years. Tuesday 29 June 1869, admitted to the freedom of above named Company of redemption.
He is recorded in the 1891 Census, of 51 Colebrooke Row, Islington, and he died on 2 June 1920. Probate 27 September to Alfred John, Bank Clerk, and Alice Jane Ablett, widow.
