Biography

Abraham was born in Wales in 1821. He emigrated to the United States between 1841 and 1850, settling first in Pennsylvania. His wife Margaret was born in Wales about 1833, and they were probably married in Pennsylvania in the early 1850s, given that his eldest child was born in that state in 1852. They soon moved on to Covington, Kentucky, where most of his remaining children were born, and then to Indiana. He passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1903 at the age of 51.

Reseach Notes

Once he arrived in the U.S., it appears his surname transformed from Abraham to Abrams, not always consistently. But Abrams stuck for his descendants.

Immigration year is uncertain. It was clearly after the 1841 census in Wales and prior to the 1850 US census. 1842 has been proposed, perhaps based on evidence from a passenger list of the Trenton out of Liverpool departing May 6, 1842. However, careful examination reveals that this Abraham Abraham cannot be Abraham-2394 (wrong age) and is unlikely to be his father, Abraham-2393.
