Biography

Edward was born about 1862. He was the son of Luke Abraham and Annie Giles.

He married Mary Ann McVicar in 1890. The children of Edward and Mary Ann were:

1. Edward Luke
2. William Percival
3. Constance Mary - died in infancy
4. Raymond Vincent - died in infancy

He passed away in 1924. He is buried in Kaikōura Cemetery.

The many friends of Mr Edward Abraham will regret to learn that he passed away at the Kaikoura Hospital early yesterday morning, after an illness of about three months. The late Mr Abraham was born in Kaikoura 62 years ago, and on reaching the stage of manhood, was engaged in farming and contracting, and assisted in the road construction in the district, putting in the road to Hapuku Bridge. He married Miss McVickers, of Canterbury, there being two sons—William, who was on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, being killed at the war, and Edward L. Abraham, also a member of the Bank of New Zealand staff, who died during the influenza epidemic. The deceased gentleman was the son of Mr Luke Abraham, who lived for many years at Mt. Fyffe, was of an unassuming nature, always cheery, and was highly respected for his integrity and conscientiousness. As a settler and neighbour he was always recognised as one ready to assist others in times of stress and trouble, which was a characteristic with the old pioneers.
