Giacomo was born in 1885 in Sicily to Giuseppe Abruzzo and Leonarda Artale. In 1897 Giacomo, age 12, traveled to New York with his mother, his younger brother and a young man with a different surname. They may have remained in the US, as Jacob appears in various US censuses as an adult. His mother's obituary states that she was living with her son Jacob on Long Island at her death in 1936. It is assumed that he remained there and died there.

Death: the obituary for his mother Leonarda states that she was living with her son Jacob at her death in August 1936. It is not clear whether that home was in Seaford (per the obit) or in Hempstead, where her death occurred. It is assumed that he remained on Long Island and died there.
