Francesca was born in Santa Margherita di Belice around 1805 [1] to Maestro Giuseppe Abruzzo and Calogera Maienza [2]. In 1833 at age 28, she married the 46-year-old widower Leonardo Calia [3] and they had several children.
Francesca was named for her paternal grandmother, Francesca Gregorio.
Research Notes
The church record for Francesca's 1833 marriage differs from the civil record in the name of her mother. The church record names her as Calogera Maienza, and the civil record calls her Calogera Cusenza. Maienza appears to be the correct name, as that is a documented couple with other records in support of their existence. There is no other record of a Calogera Cusenza married to a Giuseppe Abruzzo.
Birth year: based on her stated age at marriage (28) in 1833.
