Biography

Martha Absalom 1842 Steynton Pembrokeshire Wales

Daughter of Daniel and 1st wife Margaret Absalom 1816 Puncheston Pembrokeshire Wales Grandchild of Owen and Dorothy Absalom 1800 Puncheston Pembrokeshire Wales

Martha Absalom the daughter of Daniel and Margaret Absalom was born. Her birth was recorded 2nd quarter 1841 in the Haverfordwest District of Pembrokeshire UK. Martha also appears on the 1841 census at the family home, at Temperance, in the old parish of the Hamlet of St Thomas, which is now part of Merlins Bridge Community. With Martha and her parents at the family home are two of her siblings, Mary (b 1837) and David (b 1839).

Martha can be found in the same geographical area, on the 1851 census in the North part of Steynton Pembrokeshire. With Martha and her parents are her three siblings, David, Dorothy (b 1847) and Ann (b 1849). Her uncle Thomas Absalom is also at the family home.

When Martha was 19 years old her mother Margaret died. Her death was recorded 1st quarter 1860 in the Haverfordwest District of Pembrokeshire. As yet I have not been able to locate any of Martha’s family on the 1861 census. But in all probability they are in the old parish of Hasguard, and the census records for that parish are missing. So we are unable to confirm my theory that the family were in the Hasguard area.

Daniel Martha’s father married Lettice John, and the marriage was recorded 4th quarter 1867 in the Haverfordwest District of Pembrokeshire. Martha can be found with her father and step mother at Denant Mountain in the old parish of Steynton. Also at the family home are several of her siblings, and half siblings. These are Daniel (b 1857) Thomas (b 1857) James (b 1860). Her half siblings are William (b 1870) and Maria J (b 1871). There is also one other member of the family, and that is Ann Mathias, Martha’s married sister (b 1849). Owing to the fact that I have not fully researched Martha beyond the 1871 things are a little sketchy. It is possibly that she married one of the following four people. Stephen Thomas, or Samuel Davies in the 2nd quarter 1872 Narberth District of Pembs. Alternatively she possibly married either James John, or Henry Rowlands 4th quarter 1883 Haverfordwest District of Pembrokeshire UK.

Other than these possibly marriages the trail goes cold for Martha in Pembrokeshire.
