Biography

Private Isaac Absher served in the United States Civil War.
Enlisted: Sep 24, 1863

Isaac was born in November 1845.

During the Civil War he enlisted in Company B, North Carolina 4th Infantry Regiment on 24 Sep 1863.[1] The 4th North Carolina regiment was raised in 1861 from central and western North Carolina. The regiment completed its organization in May 1862, at Camp Hill, near Garysburg, North Carolina. It recruited its members in Iredell, Rowan, Wayne, Beaufort, Wilson, and Davie counties.[2]Isaace was considered absent without leave since March 13th, 1864 on the Company muster role dated April 1st, 1864.[3]

Isaac married Marinda Eskew on January 13th, 1866 in Wilkes, North Carolina.[4][5]Depending on the accuracy of the census records, Marinda may have been as young as 13 at the time of their marriage.

Isaac and Marinda had seven children between 1867-1888:

  2. Ezekiel b 1872 North Carolina
  3. Sarah b 1875 North Carolina
  4. Phronia b 1878 Tennessee
  5. William Smith b 1883 Tennessee
  6. Frana b 1883 Tennessee
  7. Mary b 1888 Tennessee

During the 1870 Census, Isaac, Marinda and their son John lived with Marinda's parents in house 51, Taylorsville, Johnson, Tennessee where Isaac was a farm laborer. (Taylorsville was later renamed to Mountain City in 1885) [6]

In 1891 Issac and J.P. Absher were registered voters list for Distric 2, Johnson County[7]

Isaac died in 1903.[8]
