Gabriel Abshire was born in Indian Bayou, Louisiana on March 26, 1913.[1]
His parents were Sylvestre Abshire & Estelle Veazey; he lived with them and his younger sisters in Vermilion Parish in 1920[2]
through at least 1930.[3]
In 1940 they lived in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana with his three younger sisters.[4]
On October 16, 1940 he was described as 5' 6" tall, weighing 150 lbs. with black hair and mustache, brown eyes and dark complexion. He was married and self-employed.[1]
He served in the US Coast Guard during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945. [citation needed]
Gabriel Abshire was living in Lafayette, Louisiana in 2000.[5]
He died 9 October 2000[6]
and is buried at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery and Mausoleum, in Abbeville, Louisiana.[7] His obituary was published in the Baton Rouge Advocate.[8]
