Henry was born in 1844 in the Wakefield district, Yorkshire. He was the son of Anthony Abson and Mary Hardwick. Henry emigrated to the United States, establishing himself in the state of MIchigan. He married twice, Ellen L. Gilbert (1865), and Edith G. Miller Rittenhouse (1895). Henry passed away in 1921 in Leavitt, Michigan, United States.
