"Adam Accuntius was born in the neighboring county of Shelby, where he was reared and where he was living when the Civil War broke out. He enlisted his services in behalf of the cause of the Union and served as a soldier for three years and three months, a member of Company M (*), 1st Ohio Light Artillery, going into service in September, 1861. Upon the completion of his military service, Mr. Accuntius returned home and presently married in his home county to Caroline Gross, who also was born in Shelby county. Not long after his marriage he came up into Auglaize county and bought a "forty" in the northeast quarter of section 19 of Clay Township, where he established his home. Mr. Accuntius was a good farmer and before very long added to his holdings there and adjoining "forty." He continued to increase his land holdings as the years passed and as his affairs prospered until he became the owner of more than 600 acres of land in this county and continued actively engaged in farming until his retirement and removal to the village of Geyer, where he is now living, having sold his land, and is devoting his attention to other forms of investment. To Adam Accuntius and wife were born fourteen children, all of whom are living save two-John and Michael-the others (besides the subject of this sketch) being George, William, Henry, Louis, Charles, Mattie, Sarah, Mary, Elizabeth, Caroline, and Anna. "

Taps sounded Saturday for Adam Accuntius Civil War veteran pioneer resident of Clay Township, Auglaize county, Ohio, who died in the village of Geyer at 5 o'clock. Adam Accuntius was born in Shelby County April 26, 1841 and was aged 85 years, 1 months and 9 days, at the time of his death. He spent his boyhood days on his father's farm and at the outbreak of the Civil War enlisted in the Union Army, serving for three years and three months as a member of Co. M. First Ohio Light Artillery. He saw active service on the firiing during the term of his enlistment. Upon completion of his military service, the deceased returned to Shelby County, Ohio where he resided until his marriage to Miss Caorline Gross. He then moved to a farm near Geyer, Ohio, where he resided until his retirement. Mr. Accuntius was an industrious and enterpirsing farmer. Increasing his original farmland holding from 40 to 600 acres during the years of his active endeavor. Twenty eight years ago he retired, but had maintained an active interest in business affairs. Mr. and Mrs. Accuntius were the parents of 14 children, twelve of whom with the aged widow mourn their father's death. Children surviving are: William Accuntius, Mrs. William (Mary) Schuler, both of Sidney, Ohio, George Accuntius, of Spokane, Washington, Henry Accuntius, of Mansfield, Ohio, Lewis Accuntius and Charles Accuntius of of Lima, Ohio, Mrs. Kate Koehler, of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Mrs. Charles Heintz, of Anna, Ohio and Mrs. Callie Maxson, Mrs. William Schuler (Elizabeth), Mrs. George Geyer, and Fred Accuntius, of Wapakoneta, Ohio. One brother Daniel aged 91 resides at Anna, Ohio, and a sister 89 years at Marion, Ohio. Thirty four grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren also mourn his passing. Mr. Accuntius was active in fraternal organizations and was one whom started the Kyle Post of the G.A.R. of Wapakoneta, Ohio. For 49 years he was a member of Auglaize Lodge No 168, I O. O. F. funeral services held last Tuesday afternoon at the Accuntius home in Geyer, Ohio, with the Rev. C.S. Grauser in charge, of ritualistic services.
