Biography

John was born in 1839. He was the son of Daniel Achenbach and Sarah Garrett.

During the Civil War, John served as a Private in the Company H, 34th Regiment, 5th Pennsylvania Reserve Corps/34th Pennsylvania Volunteers, U.S. Army in Civil War. He enlisted 21 June 1861 as the unit was first organized. He was discharged on a Surgeon’s Certificate on 15 December 1862. This was possibly due to injury or illness during the Battle of Antietam, which happened shortly before his discharge.

He passed away at age 37 in 1877 and was buried at Mount Zion Cemetery, Brady Township, PA .^[1]
