Biography

Hannah was born in 1804. She was the daughter of Charlot and Michael Acker.

She married John Sanger in Upper Canada in 1821.

On the Canada Census, 1851,[1] for Malahide, Elgin, Canada West, Hannah is listed as Ann, at the age of 47, living with her husband, John, and children

  • Simon 17
  • Avery 16 (born George Avery)
  • Cintha 9 (Cynthia)
  • Charlott 7 (Charlotte)
  • Miriam 5
  • as well as her mother, Charlot Acker (63)

and in the same household or on a property immediately adjacent, hers and John's son

  • Samuel 30
  • his wife Lucreca 26 (Lucretia)
  • Sarah (granddaughter) 7
  • Mary (granddaughter) 4
  • Peter (grandson) 2

On the Canada Census, 1861, for Bayham, Elgin, Canada West [2]Hannah is listed as Anna, age 56, living with her husband, John, 62, and children

  • John (abbrev) 29
  • Elijah 23
  • Cyrus 4 (grandson)
  • Charlott 16
  • Miriam 14

Hannah as Annie, and John are cited on the registration for the marriage of their daughter, Miriam, to George Clink, in Bayham, Elgin County on 14 Nov 1864. [3]

On the Canada Census, 1871, Annie is 66 years of age, living with her husband, John, age 71, in Bayham, Elgin East, Ontario. Son Samuel and his children ages 2 to 23, are at the adjacent property (Lucretia is not listed)[4]

Ann passed away in Bayham, Elgin, Ontario, on the 9 Feb 1879 at the age of 74 years, cited as Ann, widow of John Sanger. William Kennedy of Bayham (her grandson, son of Martha Ann Sanger Kennedy) is the informant. Place of birth is curiously and incorrectly given as Lunde Lane, Canada. (This must surely be Lundy's Lane in Niagara Falls, Ontario).[5]

She is buried in the Guysboro Cemetery in Straffordville, Elgin, Ontario. [6]

John and she (as Munn - transcript error for Ann?) are cited on the registration in 1927 for the death of their daughter in Michigan. [7]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ann by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ann:
