Biography

J. R. Ackerly was a British writer and editor. Serving as literary editor of BBC's weekly magazine The Listener, he published many emerging poets and writers who became influential in Great Britain. He was openly homosexual at a time when homosexuality was forbidden by law and socially ostracized.[1]

Joe was born in 1896. He was the son of Roger Ackerley and Janetta Aylward.[2]

He passed away in 1967.
