Biography

On July 21, 1870, John Nelson Ackley was age 10 living with his Father, Mother and siblings in Shelby, Edwards County, Illinois. Their post office was Albion and their dwelling number was 27. His Father Larnza D. Ackley was 51 and his mother Eliza G. was 38. The other siblings were Martha age 7, Clara age 5 and Larenzo D age 1. John and Martha attended school. Their Father was a Farmer.^[1]

On July 1, 1880, John was 19 and still living with his Father in Shelby, Edwards County, Illinois. They lived in House number 241 and dwelling number 234. John helped his Father on the Farm. The other children living with them were Martha H. age 17 and Clara A age 15, Jersey age 13, Lorenzo Jr. age 10 and Lucey age 8.^[2]

On June 28, 1900, Sarah was 35 and living with her husband John N. Ackley in Salem, Edwards County, Illinois. The 1900 census stated Sarah was born July 1864. They living in dwelling 442 on North Street. Their Family Number was 443. They had been married 16 years. Sarah had 9 children but only 5 were alive. Sarah and her husband could read and write. They had 5 children living with them. They were Charles W 15, son Dow L 13, Albion E. 8, Maynard W age 5 and son Shirley T. age 1.^[3]

On May 5, 1910, John was 49 and living with his wife Sarah (Fildes) 45, in Precinct 12, Polk, Florida. John was a Real Estate Dealer. They had five children living with them. They were Chas age 25, Albione age 20, son Maynard age 18, son Shirley age 14 and Bernice age 5. They had 4 boarders living with them. They were Jackson NIpper 31 from Georgia (Blacksmith), Hiriam Cotton age 19 from New Jersey (O Packer), Richardson age 22 and John Sigmon age 25 from Florida (O Packer) Everyone could read or write except for Bernice and Richarson.^[4]

In 1919, Sarah H. and her husband John N. Ackley were living on H Street in Lakeland, Forida.^[5]

On January 13, 1920, John was 59 and his wife Sarah was 55. They were living in Winter Haven, Polk, Florida. They had three children, son Albion age 28, son Shirley and Bernice P. age 15. John was in the Hotel business.^[6]

In 1921, John and Sarah were still living in Lakeland, Florida. They lived on Do J Street. John was a Proprietor of a Hotel Plaza.^[7]

John Nelson Ackley died February 10, 1937 at the age of 76. He died in Winter Haven, Polk County, Florida. was buried in the Oaklawn Cemetery^[8] in Winter Haven.

Sarah E. (Fildes) Ackley died Marcy 8, 1939 at the age of 74. She died in Winter Haven, Polk County, Florida. She was buried in the Oaklawn Cemetery^[9] in Winter Haven.
