Biography

He was born about 1760 and was the son of Johannas Eckart Acord (b: c1720 Spielburg, Par Pressussen, Germany).

He first appeared in Frederick County, Maryland (now West Virginia, USA) which was largely settled by Palatine and German immigrants from Pennsylvania in the late 18th century.

During the American Revolutionary War he enlisted in the Maryland Continental Line on 17 Dec 1776 in Frederick County, Maryland and served as Private in Captain Jonathan Morris' Company of Colonel Gunby's Regiment and later Captain Henry Hardin's Company, New York Regiment#5.

On 22 August 1777 Cornelius fought in Sullivan's Raid on Staten Island where he received a musket ball wound in the right thigh and was taken prisoner. After the raid he was exchanged and went on to fight in the battles of Brandywine in September 1777 and Germantown on 04 October 1777. On 08 Dec 1779 he was discharged from the military at North Westpoint, New York, USA.

After the war he was one of a number of German immigrants from Frederick County, Maryland, USA who relocated to a new German settlement in Lincoln County, North Carolina, USA.

Cornelius Acord married on 29 Jan 1784 in Lincoln County, North Carolina, USA to Barbara Eaker [1]

In 1806 he sold his land in Rutherford County, North Carolina, USA and relocated his family to Roane County, Tennessee, USA.

His wife Barbara died on 02 Nov 1839 and he followed eight days later on 10 Nov 1839. They were reportedly buried at Bowers Cemetery in Roane County, Tennessee, USA. His marker was inscribed as "Cronamus Acree", however no grave markers exist today.
