Activity feeds enable you to track changes on WikiTree. Here are the different kinds of feeds.

Contents

Ancestor Activity Feed

This feed shows all the recent activity on profiles of the ancestors of the starting person. You might use it to see if any of your cousins are currently contributing to your tree.

To access it, click the "Changes" tab on your profile, or on any other profile with a public family tree or any private profile for which you are on the Trusted List. Then click the "Ancestors" button.

The feed may not include all the person's ancestors. It is limited to the first 50 generations, or the first 1,000 ancestors and others in the same generation. Also, anyone with a private family tree will be excluded from the feed unless you are on their profile's Trusted List.

Category Activity Feed

This feed shows all the recent activity on profiles within a specific category. You might use it to monitor contributions happening in cemetery or name study categories. Projects might use it to monitor contributions to profiles within their project categories.

To access it, navigate to a category, such as Category:Unsourced Profiles. Then click the "Activity Feed" button located at the top of page.

Changes to a Profile

Every profile has its own activity feed. Click the "Changes" tab on the profile to see it. This displays all the activity related to that particular profile. See Help:Changes for more information.

Connections Activity Feed

This feed shows all the recent activity on profiles that are closely "connected" to the starting person. These connections work the same as the ones in the Connection Finder: they go out in every direction and include relationships through marriage.

You might use this to see if any other members are currently working on profiles close to you.

To access it, click the "Changes" tab on your profile, or on any other profile with a public family tree or any private profile for which you are on the Trusted List. Then click the "Connections" button.

The feed includes profiles connected within 10 degrees of the starting person up to a limit of 1,000 profiles. You may see less than 1,000 because anyone with a private family tree will be excluded from the feed unless you are on their Trusted List.

Contributions Feed for a Member

Every WikiTree member has their own activity feed. Click the "contributions" link on an active member's profile. You'll find it below their member type at the top of their profile. See Help:Contributions for more information.

Descendant Activity Feed

This feed shows all the recent activity on profiles of the descendants of any starting profile with a public family tree, or any private profile for which you are on the Trusted List.

You might check an ancestor's Descendant Activity Feed to see if any of your distant cousins are currently working on WikiTree.

To access it, start at a person's profile and click the "Changes" tab. Then click the "Descendants" button.

It includes activity on the starting person's profile.

It may not include all the person's descendants. It is limited to the first 50 generations, or the first 1,000 descendants and others in the same generation. Also, descendants with private family trees will not appear unless you are on their individual Trusted Lists.

Family Activity Feed (Watchlist)

Click the "Family Activity Feed" link in your "My WikiTree" menu to see a full list of changes to profiles in your Watchlist.

Recent activity in your Watchlist also appears on your Navigation Home Page.

Once a week, a summary of the activity is emailed to you. This summary excludes changes that you yourself have made.

If your Family Activity Feed is overwhelming, you may want to cut down the size of your Watchlist. Use this form to remove yourself from Trusted Lists.

G2G Feed

Click the "G2G Feed" link in your "My WikiTree" menu to see a list of questions and answers in the G2G forum that have been tagged with a surname or project tag that you are following.

Once a day, a summary of the G2G activity is emailed along with your Wiki Genealogy Feed.

Surname Activity Feed

You can see all the recent changes made to profiles with any given surname. Here is the feed for Smith. From there you can enter any other surname.

Thank-You Feed

We also have feeds for Thank-Yous. You can view all the thank-yous received for a particular contribution or all the thank-yous received by you or another member. Click the small "thank-yous received" link on any member's profile.

Once a week, recent thank-yous are emailed along with your Family Activity Feed.

Wiki Genealogy Feed (Followed Surnames)

Click the "Wiki Genealogy Feed" link in your "My WikiTree" menu to see a list of changes to all profiles with the surnames that you are following.

Recent activity in your followed surnames also appears on your Navigation Home Page.

Once a day, a summary of the activity is emailed to you. The e-mail update also includes G2G forum activity in the surnames and other tags you're following, and also members who added the tag in the past 24 hours.
