Biography

Richard was born in 1827 in Chester, England to Samuel Acton and Sarah Bryars in Chester.

In 1848, Richard married Elizabeth Shenton in Ardwick. They had eight children.

In Fall 1856, the families of Arthur and his brother Richard immigrated to Canada. They spent at least one year in Montreal. By 1860, they were farming in Rockingham, Ontario. Arthur settled Lot 7, Concession 8 in Brudenell Township, Renfrew County, Ontario. His brother Richard settled land in Lots 26 & 27, Concession 7. A few years later in 1874, John Gurney settled Lot 28, Concession 9.

Elizabeth passed away in 1864 during childbirth. In 1866, Richard married Mary Kulas (Coulis, Coulas) in Rockingham. They had eleven children, all born in Rockingham.

In about 1891, they moved to Ellisboro, Saskatchewan. Richard passed away in 1911 in Ellisboro and is buried in Ellisboro Cemetery.
