William Acworth married[1][3]Elizabeth Palmer on 16 November 1834 at St Mary's in Lambeth, Surrey, England.
In the 1841 Census William Acworth and Elizabeth Palmer were living in High Street, Strood, Rochester, Kent. Their children William (age 4) and Amos (age 7 months) were with them.
In the 1851 Census[4]William Acworth (age 44, working as a tallow chandler and living in Northfleet, Strood, Kent) was with his wife Elizabeth Palmer (age 38) and their three children: William (age 14); Amos (age 10) and Joseph (age 8).
A fourth child Edward John Acworth was born at Strood in September 1845 but died a year later in September 1846.
In the 1861 Census[5]William Acworth (age 54) was a Tallow Chandler[6] living in the High Street, Strood, Rochester, with his wife Elizabeth Palmer (age 48), born in Gillingham and Joseph (age 18 and born in Strood) were with them.
WIlliam married[8] for the second time to Mary Jarman on 10 January 1867 at St. Sepulchre, Holborn, City of London.
In the 1881 Census[9]William Acworth (age 76 - Retired Tallow Chandler) was living in King Edward Road No 4 Villa, Rochester St Margaret, Kent, with his 2nd wife Mary Jarman (age 55 and born in Ramsgate, Kent.)
Death and Burial
William Acworth died[1][10] 19 April 1886 in Rochester, Kent. In his Will[11] he is said to have been living at 7 Roebucks Road, St Margarets, Rochester - but formerly of 7 Paddock Terrace, New Road, Chatham. His son William proves the will and his son Joseph - both of Chatham Tallow Chandlers and Sons are the Executors. He is buried at St Nicholas with St Mary Churchyard, Strood, Medway Unitary Authority, Kent, England along with his first wife Elizabeth Palmer Acworth and his second wife Mary (Jarman), who died in 1885. The Tombstone enscription reads[12]
Sacred To The Memory Of Elizabeth, The Beloved Wife Of Mr. William Acworth Of This Parish, Who Departed This Life August 10th 1865 - Aged 53 Years Also Edward John Acworth, Son Of The Above Who Departed This Life September 4th 1846, Aged 15 Months Also Mary Acworth Second Wife Of The Above, Who Departed This Life July 31st 1885, Aged 69 Years Also The Above Mr. William Acworth, Who Departed This Life April 19th 1886 Aged 82 Years
