Richard Ian Acworth was born[1] in Bromley, Kent. His parents were Richard Alvin Acworth and Margaret Angela Parker. He moved with his parents to Sunnyside, Spatham Lane, Ditchling Common, East Sussex in 1952 where they lived on a small holding - initially with water from a well, oil lamps and no mains drainage. They had an orchard and a line of pig stys. His two sisters were born at Sunnyside. Jackie in 1955 and Jane in 1958. The family moved to Hassocks in Sussex in December 1962 - immediately followed by a very severe winter. Ian went to School in Haywards Heath and Brighton. Then up to Leeds University where he studied Earth Sciences.
Ian met Lynne during the time at Leeds. They went to Northern Nigeria for 3 years after getting married[2] at Cheam on 25 October 1975. They then returned to Birmingham University, England where Ian completed a PhD and Lynne an MA. They then worked in London for 5 years before migrating to Sydney, Australia in 1988 along with their 3 children Catherine, William and Alexander. Ian worked at UNSW until retiring in 2015. He spent his career as a Hydrogeologist (looking for water under the ground) and retired as an Emeritus Professor at UNSW, living at St Ives in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
It is interesting/worrying to note that the marriage data on Ancestry for my marriage is wrong. Even for an event in 1975 - so what hope for all the trust we put into earlier sources. The Ancestry copy of the GRO record for the birth is correct. However, the Ancestry marriage record shows a Robert J C Acworth instead of a Richard I C Acworth. Other details, such as date, location and partner are correct. You have to wonder if such an error can creep into a recent record, how many things can have gone wrong with older records?!

We're contacting you for the annual Australia Project membership checkin. We really appreciate your involvement in the Project in the last year. Thank you so much for all your help to improve Australian profiles on WikiTree.
Please could you reply to this message, or send me a private message to let us know if you'd like to stay on in the Project, and if you'd like to make any changes to the teams that you belong to. The teams are listed on Australia Project Teams.
If you've moved on to other things for the moment, that's absolutely fine. We'd appreciate if you'd let us know so that we can remove you from the membership list.
Over the past year, Australia Project members have been more active on Discord. We're finding it a fun way to communicate as a project. If you're not on Discord yet, here's some information - Help:Discord. If you are already on the WikiTree Discord server, let us know, and we can send you an invite link to the dedicated Australia Project server (WikiAustralia) where all our chat channels are located. It's a great way to communicate with other members on your project team/s, or for any general questions.
We're always happy to receive any ideas or suggestions that you have to make our project even better.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
The Australia Project Leadership Team ~ Gillian, Margaret and Veronica

Thank you for adding a source for Edward Bulkeley's ordination. You also made some substantial formatting edits to Edward Bulkeley's profile. I wanted to let you know that I reverted those changes as they were not in line with WikiTree or Magna Carta Project guidelines. Before making formatting edits to project-managed profiles, please remember to communicate before editing. See this page for more info: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Communication_Before_Editing
Kind regards, Traci ~co-leader Magna Carta Project
It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.
First of all, how are you doing? Are you enjoying the Orphan Trail? Is there anything else you need help with?
Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Joan, Amy & Lizzie.
I am happily passing along the Orphan Trail and learning heaps. It was an excellent idea that someone had to encourage good behaviour and accuracy. I am completing a number of other Acworth profiles along the way. I have not used Google Groups or the Discord server yet. There is pleanty to get used to and I am not aware that I have had the need yet! Thanks for asking Ian

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz. As Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within a project is good working collaboratively is essential. Appreciate you joining the England project already, good to see your enthusiasm.

I have a copy of the Acworth Pedigree (1905) that starts with William Acworth who was attorney to Duke Humphrey - younger brother of Henry V. Much of this tree has been input to Ancestry - but without too much attention to sources. Is it better to start at the top and work back to William on Wikipedia adding all source information that is available, or continuing to fill out the Ancestry file and then transfering? I tried comparing the ancestry gedcom file with wiki tree and did not get many overlaps for Acworth characters - so it seems that no one has done this work yet. I would appreciate your comments! Thanks, Ian
I normally recommend starting with parents and grandparents and working back. Personally, I think you should do the Source citations on WikiTree, rather than importing from Ancestry. Ancestry GEDCOMs are links which are behind “pay to view wall”, so citations from sites which are freely available will be more accessible to others. There are some Ancestry sources which you may not be able to find elsewhere, in which case there are techniques for citing them. The g2g forum is good for getting advice on that. It is full of helpful people and suggestions
Let me know if you have further questions

I am so delighted to welcome you to WikiTree! Thank you for upgrading. You are all set to add and edit profiles now.
Click here to start with our New Member How To Pages. They will save you time, energy and frustration as you add your family profiles.
Thank you for adding your DNA Test to your profile on WikiTree. Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.
DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and have the potential of having common ancestors. To get the best results, you need to start with yourself and add sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to existing profiles in WikiTree. 24 hours later, your test will have populated on the profiles of your ancestors and their descendants, where others with potential matches may also appear.
Have fun collaborating on your ancestors
