James Acworth was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England.

James was born[1] in 1830. James was the son of James Acworth and Sarah Thackrey.

In the 1841 England Census[2] James (Age 10) was living at Prospect Place in Scarborough, Yorkshire with his parents James and Sarah (Thackery) (age 38). His siblings Rachel (age 14) and Mary Ann (age 8) are with him.

In the 1861 Census[3] James (age 30) was living at Westfield House, Rawdon, Leeds, Yorkshire. He was there with his parents James (age 62) and Step-mother Mary (Brindley) Acworth (age 56) and his sister Mary Ann (age 38).

James Acworth married[4] Eliza Town on 12 April 1866 at South Parade Chapel, Leeds, Yorkshire West Riding, England. The ceremony was led by his father Rev. James Acworth, LL.D. Eliza was the elder daugher of the Late Joseph Town, Esq., Leeds. The reference is from the Sheffield Independent on Tue 17 Apr 1866 - P8.

In the 1871 England Census[5] James (age 40) is living at Horton with his wife Eliza (32) and their children : James Herbert Ackworth (age 2) and Joseph (age 6 months). They are helped by a servant Esther A B Robinson (age 18).

James was enrolled[6] on the electoral register at Horton in 1875, 1876, 1878, 1880, 1883, 1885, 1886, 1887, 1888, 1887, 1888, 1889, and 1892.

In the 1901 Census[7]James (age 70) is living in Bradford with his wife Eliza Town and their 4 children: James Herbert (age 32); Henry A (age 28) and Eliza (age 25).

James Acworth died[8] in 1904. His Will[9] was read in Bradford on 15 Aug 1904. Probate to his wife Eliza and his son James Herbert. William Town was a further beneficiary.
