Biography

Areas of interest:

  • On my father's side, I've traced my ancestry back a few generations to Northern Ireland, Adair and McCracken in the counties of Antrim, Down and Monaghan.
  • On my mother's side, I've traced my ancestry back up to eight generations, primarily to:
Central Derbyshire - Smith & Stafford & Taylor (Carsington, Wirksworth)
South Derbyshire/Leicestershire border/exclaves - Harvey, Smith, Stafford (Oakthorpe, Measham, Alvaston)
Leicestershire - Berrington, Bird (Shepshed, Loughborough & Ashby de la Zouch areas)
Gloucestershire - Morris (Gloucester & Barton St Mary)
Oxfordshire - Rolph (Oxford & Witney)
Northamptonshire - Richardson & Booth (Chacombe, Weldon)

Brick Walls:

  • Fate of my paternal great grandfather James McAuley Adair, the family story is that he went to Australia, presumably abandoning his wife. The latest I can find him is the 1901 Ireland Census, but he was around to father my grandfather who was born in 1911.
  • Parents of great grandfather Charles Harvey, born in Oakthorpe about 1879, can't find him in the 1881 census and he is with more distant relatives in the 1891 England census, who I have yet to connect to the Harvey family. N.B. there are two Charles Harvey born in Oakthorpe about 1879, the one born to Edwin Harvey and Sarah Young is NOT my ancestor.

Hello,

I see that you just did the Pre-1700 Self-Certification. That's great! Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Maybe you have some historically-significant ancestors? Let me know.

I can help you figure out if there's a project and introduce you to the project leaders.

Hi!

How are you? I'm Shirley, a WikiTree Mentor. Hope you're enjoying our site.

How To Use WikiTree is a good starting point, and the Help Index is an important place to find out how to do most tasks.

If you have pre-1700's ancestors to add please read our Pre-1700 profiles info. Do you have Royal Ancestors? Rather than create duplicate profiles for them, please contact the EuroAristo Project to discuss connecting your family line to their profiles.

And I'm here to help too, just ask!

Thanks for joining us! I hope you enjoy our community and connect with lots of new cousins here.

If you need any help getting started check out the help section from the menu, top left, or head over to the G2G forum. You might want to check out the introductory WikiTree video that a member created.

Our Mentor Team are a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to help you with specific problems if you have any.

Hi, hoping to find some connections to grow my family tree, particularly on the N.Irish side (Adair and M'Cracken).

I noticed you uploaded a GEDCOM. Here's a link to great instructions on adding a GEDCOM to WikiTree that you might find helpful.

If you have any brick walls, collaboration might help bust through. Because WikiTree has only one profile for each person, the further back you go in your ancestry, the more likely cousins will find you and help out. ANY Wiki Genealogist can edit "Open" profiles (over 200 years old = open). There's also a brickwall tag in the G2G forum: brickwall

The help pages give lots of information about the process, best to start with 'Before you import a GEDCOM'
