DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
Great question! Unfortunately, to my knowledge Mary's last name at birth remains undocumented. Some researchers claim that she was born a Kilgore and others an Adair. Now that I know she's not my direct ancestor, I've not done much more research on her. One resource that may help: Adair, James Barnett. Adair : history and genealogy. Los Angeles: J.B. Adair, 1924 (on ancestry.com and archive.org). Also an email was sent to me from Charles Bourland a member of the Bourland Society. He states that "William married Mary Kilgore Adair, daughter of James William Kilgore (1701-1771) & Elizabeth Jack (1719-1792). Born in 1735 in SC. Mary Kilgore died in SC in 1804; she was 69." Another possibility for her parents are Joseph Alexander Adair and his wife Sarah Laferty. Joseph died 1789 in Laurens, SC. [From "History of Gwinnett County, Georgia" written in 1879] In the "History of the Presbyterian Church in South Carolina" by Howe, published in 1870, it states "About 1764 Messrs. Joseph Adair, Thomas Ewing, William Hanna, Andrew McCrary and his brothers united in building a house of worship {Duncan Creek Presbyterian}. Mary the daughter of William Bourland and wife Mary first married Robert McCrary and secondly John Prather Odell (my 4th ggf by his first wife). There were 4 McCrary brothers that came to the Laurens, SC area. Their sister Ann married Benjamin Kilgore. [Culpepper and McCrary Lines, Harriett Dickson Reynolds (Mrs. Everette), 6200 Inwood Dr., Houston TX 77057., Self published]

Adair-1352 and Adair-460 appear to represent the same person because: Hi Cuzn Sam, Mary Adair is my 5th great grandmother. Let's merge these 2 women since they're the same wife of William Bourland. I'm not sure about the Kildare portion of her name. Do you have documentation for this, other than ancestry.com trees? Thanks so much! Beth
