Biography

John was born about 1854.[1][2] His parents were Alexander ADAM, Seaman (Merchant Service), and Christina ADAM née FINDLAY.[2]

In 1871, age 16, John was an Apprentice Cooper living with his mother Christina (48, Sailor's Wife) and siblings Eliza (23, Servant General Domestic), William (11, Scholar) and Ann J (4, Scholar) on Threadneedle Street, Dunnottar, Kincardineshire, Scotland.[3]

On 31 Dec 1877, age 23, John married 18 year old Jane C. HENDERSON in her home at 61 Duke Street in the parish of Blackfriars in the burgh of Glasgow.[2] John was a bachelor and worked as a Cooper (Journeyman).[2] Jane was a spinster and worked as a Domestic Servant.[2] The service was conducted by a minister of the United Presbyterian Church and the witnesses were John C. WOOD [either Jane's cousin or uncle] and Isabella HENDERSON [either Jane's sister or mother].[2]
