Biography
Alexander Adam was born on 3 May 1816 in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, son of John Adam (1777 - )Margaret (Robertson) Adam (1778 - 1864).
His siblings were:
- George Adam (1805 - 1854)
- John Adam (1808 - 1824)
- Margaret Forbes Adam (1812 - 1899)
- James Adam (1823 - 1908)
Alexander married Isabella Maitland Stewart (1838 - ) (born in Coldstone, Aberdeenshire on 31 January 1838, died in Aberdeen), daughter of David Stewart and Margaret Maitland.
In 1851 (aged ~35), Alexander's occupation was a manager. He was living at 7 Fish Street in Aberdeen with his mother, Margaret (71); his brother, John (43); Helen Adam (42), James Adam (6); and Mary Nognail (15).[1]
In 1861 (aged ~45), Alexander's occupation was 'Salmon Fisher'. He was living at 7 Fish Street with his parents, John (84) and Margaret (81); and Ellen Adam (54).[2]
In 1871 (aged ~55), Alexander's occupation was the manager of a salmon company. He was living at 9 Fish Street with his wife, Isabella (33); their daughter, Margaret Jane (3); and Helen Adam (63), Mary Leontine Brown (17).[3]
In 1881 (aged ~65), Alexander was a salmon fisher. He was living at 9 Fish St. with his wife, Isabella M S (43); their daughters, Margaret Jane (13), Helen Eliza (9), Georgina L (7); their son, David S (5); Helen Adam (74), Mary Boyd (54), Helen Hutchison (15), and Christian Hutchison (18).[4]
In 1891 (aged ~75), Alexander was manager of a salmon company. He was living at 6, West Craibstone St with his wife, Isabella S (53); and Helen Adam (83); thier daughters, Maggie J (23), Nellie E (9), Georgina S (17); and Jane Smart (29).[5]
Alexander died on 4 Apr 1900 in Aberdeen aged 83. He is buried in Saint Clements Churchyard, Aberdeen.[6][7]
