August Henry (originally Agustis?) Adam, a son of Mary and Agustis Heinrich Adam (abt.1827-1896), was born on June 12, 1866 in Trenton, Canada West (Ontario).[1][2] He migrated to the US ca. 1885-88 and married Dora Beach (her 2nd marriage) in Flint, Michigan on June 2, 1889 (at which time he was working as a laborer).[3][4][5][6][7] In 1892, he was still living in Flint, where he worked as a "kpr" (keeper?) for the Flint Road Cart Co.[8] By 1900, August had become a naturalized citizen, and he and Dora were living in Pontiac, Michigan with their 6-year-old son Augustus Carl and Dora's parents, where August now worked as a blacksmith.[9]
August's life changed in the ensuing decade: following the (presumed) death of Dora, he took a second wife, Angeline Bennor, in La Porte City, Iowa on March 16, 1910.[10] With Angie, her daughter Bessie, and his son (now known as August), August H. Adam now lived in Waterloo, Iowa, where he spent the rest of his life, working variously as foreman on bridge work,[11][12] watchman for a department store,[13] and a blacksmith at the Galloway Factory,[14][15] August Henry Adam died in Cedar Falls, Iowa on June 19, 1952, and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Nashua, Iowa.[16]
