Wilfred Adams, only child of George Adams and Mary Purser was raised in Stuart St, Blenheim alongside where the railway line now runs. He was known as Gordon.
He was called up for enlistment WWI in October 1918 with the NZEF - 23rd Reinforcements but peace was declared before he could leave.
Gordon worked as a Farm Hand in the early years.
In 1925 he married Amy Christina Murdoch, daughter of Hellen and Alexander Grant Murdoch of Blenheim.
Most of his life, some 60 years, was spent in the Awatere Valley on the property known as GLENBRAE set up by his father and Uncle Frank Adams. He continued farming till he was 80. His daughter and her husband would carry on and were the first to live on the property.
Wilfred Gordon Adams received his 100th Birthday Honours in September 1998. Cards came from the Queen, Governor General and the MP for Kaikoura as well as other government ministers.
He outlived all his children and passed away age 102.
Gordon is buried in Fairhall Cemetery, Blenheim.
