Probate of James Adams Sr of New Braintree

Elizabeth Adams requested of the court, on March 28, 1776, that her son James Adams be assigned as administrator of the estate of his father James Adams of New Braintree, Worcester Co. Massachusetts, deceased. p. 22 [4]

The probate record is extensive, and seems to have taken at long time to settle. The inventory of May 28, 1789/90, showed a value of L153 6s 5d 2. (p. 33)

A list of debts and amounts owed was assessed by James Jr. administrator and submitted on Feb. 20, 1789/90, far exceeded the estate value. The total amount due was L269 18s 4d. (p. 18)

An auction was ordered by the court of common pleas on about 40 acres of land in New Braintree owned by James Adams Sr., deceased, to be carried out by James Adams Jr. on Nov. 18, 1790. (p. 20)Notice of said auction to be published in New Braintree, Brookfield and Hardwick, (p. 19)

No will, no other children mentioned other than James Jr. Admin.

Adams-36385 and Adams-16618 appear to represent the same person because: 36385 is undocumented but is clearly meant to be 16618. James Adams was not born in New Braintree but lived there when his younger children were born. His wife was Elizabeth.
