Nicolaus Adams emigrated from Prussia (Germany) and arrived at Port of New York on 24 December 1855 aboard the ship New York. He came directly to Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois. Nicolaus and Anna later moved from Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois to Iowa sometime after the birth of their son Jacob Adams, born on 13 January 1873 in Johnsburg.
