Biography

The birth of Samuel Adams, son of Edward, is unknown. The Samuel Adams bpt. on 23 November 1645, was the son of Jeremy Adams, not the son of Edward.[1]

Records show that Samuel Adams had a first wife, name unknown, who gave him 2 sons, Samuel and Daniel[2]He married his second wife, Mary Rose Meeker,[3][4] July 15, 1679 (Connecticut), with their union producing the following eight children, before Samuel died in 1694[5][6]: Sarah, Abigail, Elizabeth, Abraham, Jonathan, David, Benjamin, and John.[7][8]

Sons of the American Revolution Membership

Descendants of those individuals who earned the privilege to become members of the prestigious "Sons of the American Revolution" organization,[9]are also eligible for such membership, based on application, evidence of relationship, and acceptance by the organization. Such is the case with Joanna, who, with her husband, Isaac, played integral roles in the American Revolution. Membership numbers, on the national and state levels are assigned to those individuals who apply and are accepted for membership, based on their evidence of relationship with their honored family members.

Research Notes

This Samual Adams is not the same person as Samuel Adams (1652-1727) who was born in Massachusetts. Both Samuel's moved to Canterbury CT around the same time and had wives with the first name of Mary causing the confusion.

Adams-5214 and Adams-17030 do not represent the same person because: Adams-17030 was born in CT in 1645 and died in 1694 while Adams-5214 was born in MA in 1652 and died in 1727. According to "U.S., New England Marriages Prior to 1700", page 5, Mary Meeker's husband, Samuel Adams, died in 1694, so Adams-5214 was not her husband. There are also several children listed on profile Adams-5214 that Mary Meeker and Samuel Adams did not have, per list of children from "The History of Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut, from the Settlement of the Town in 1639 to 1818: 1639-1700,Volume 1", page 349 by Elizabeth Hubbell Godfrey Schenck and "Upton family records : being genealogical collections for an Upton family history", page 190, by William Henry Upton
