Biography

Alfred is the son of Samuel Adams and Martha Ann Thorton. He married Mary Lamb, daughter of Jacob Lamb and Julia Jordan.

"Alfred Newton Adams was a physician, born July 17, 1831, in East Alabama, and died December 13, 1901, at Dadeville. He was educated for a physician, and practiced his entire life in Dadeville. He was a Democrat, a Mason and a Baptist." (Causey; Owen & Owen)

Alfred and Mary were the parents of 4 children: Female m. George Ramer of Atlanta, GA; A. L. Adams of Dadeville, AL; Julia (Adams) Brown of Dadeville; Female m. John Murth of Frost, TX.

From 1860 US Census, Northern Division, Macon Co., AL: "A M Adams M 30 Ga Mary Adams F 25 Ga Martha Adams F 7 Ala, Julia Adams F 4 Ala, Ophelia Adams F 1 Ala" On the original copy of this Census, Alfred is listed as a physician.

In 1880, A. N. and M. J. Adams were living in Opelika, Lee Co., Alabama with son Alfred L.-16.

The 1900 US Census from Election Precinct 7, Dadeville, Tallapoosa Co., Alabama shows Alfred-70, and Mary J. living with Julia A. Newell, daughter (widowed).

Buried in Dadeville City Cemetery, Tallapoosa Co., Alabama
