William Adams was possibly born about 1827 in Georgia. [1]
He could have also been born in 1830 in South Carolina. [2]
He might have been the son of Phillip Adams of Talbot County Georgia as a William Adams was working for John Woden Adams, cousin of Philip, in Talbot County, Georgia, in 1850. [3]
William Adams married on 09 May 1852 in Stewart County, Georgia to Mary "Mollie" Elizabeth Trotman. [4]
They had 6 children together, four: James A., Thomas M., Alice P., Mary L., seen on the 1860 United States Federal Census. [5]
The couple had two more children after 1860: Willie Adams (William Walker) and Lizzie Adams (Elizabeth Arena) seen in 1870 census. [6]
During the American Civil War, William Adams enlisted as a private in E Company, 11th Georgia Infantry - (William Vause enlisted at age of 27 in Stewart County in May 1862 in the 3rd Regiment of Georgia Cavalry, Company E. This meant that his date of birth was 1835). William Adams, my 2nd great-grandfather was born no later than 1830 according to census data. [8]
William Adams died measles in Ocmulgee Confederate hospital on 14 September 1864 - admitted into hospital 7 September 1864. [9]
He died in probate or without a known will. Probate records 19 October 1864 and 5 December 1864; see [10] ; [11]
