Biography

Almira was born February 9, 1886. Her parents are not known. She was put in the care of and raised by Hannah Gove Chase Adams. It was said that the General Relief Society President had asked Hannah to care for her. Although Hannah's husband, Barnabas Adams passed away June 2, 1869, Almira was given the last name of Adams.

On March 13, 1872, Hannah married Edward Francis Blair, 3 months after his first wife passed away. Edward was previously married to Jane Eleanor Fenwick who died on December 11, 1871.

Almira was cared for by Hannah Gove Chase Adams Blair until Hannah's death, July 27, 1897. At that time, Almira was 10 years old. After her death, Almira stayed with Amy Hannah Adams Thomas, a daughter of Barnabas L. Adams and Hannah Gove Chase, until her marriage to Franklin Gilbert Kite in December 16, 1902. Almira was 15 at the time of her marriage; 2 months shy of 16.

From December 1866 to December 5, 1887, Eliza R. Snow was President of the General Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Snow's presidency emphasized spirituality and self-sufficiency. Her responsibilities also extended to young women and children within the church. The Relief Society sent women to medical school, trained nurses, opened the Deseret Hospital, operated cooperative stores, as well as many other things.

It is not if Almira what's given to Hannah when she was born, but her biological mother was probably in the Relief Society and was either not married or could not care for the child.

Barnabas was a polygamist who eventually had three wives. The birth dates of some of the children from one wife overlapped with the birth dates of children from another wife.
