Biography

William Adams was born in about 1771 in the Colony of Virginia.[1]

He is identified by many researchers as the William Adams who was living in Greensville County, Virginia, when a marriage bond was issued on 12 April 1799 for the marriage of William Adams to Elizabeth Clements.[2]

By 1850, he was living in Estill County, Kentucky. Also in the household with him is his wife Elizabeth Adams, born in Virginia in about 1774.[1]

William died in Estill County, Kentucky, on 22 January 1852.[3]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

Hi everyone. After exchanging messages with Stephanie and reviewing the comment chain below, I understand the plan is to designate this profile as the William Adams who died in Estill County, Kentucky, in 1852, according to Find a Grave memorial 235040309. I am going to make some clean up edits this afternoon on both profiles to get that process started.

Hello everyone. Stephanie White and I are working on a clean-up of this profile and Williams Adams, which both appear to represent the William Adams, age 80, who was living in Floyd County, Kentucky, in 1850. There are several conflicting factual claims about spouses, children, parents, middle name, etc., which we are trying to resolve prior to any merge. If anyone else is interested in collaborating on this effort, please weigh in. Thanks!

The records of William Adams (Adams-9045) and William Penn (Adams-25376) seem to be mixed together.

I agree Denise; I have recently noticed that as well. Do you think they are the same people or conflated profiles, or something else?

I am following a DNA match for Adams-9045 on Ancestry. I think William was born and married in Pittsylvania, Virginia and by 1810 was living in Floyd, KY and remained there for the rest of his life. I think this may be his FAG record https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/225869776/william-adams

The other William with Penn attached to his name was buried in Estill Ky. His FAG record https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/235040309/william-penn-adams

According to FAG Married Elizabeth Clements.

Then we might be cousins, because that is the DNA match to me William Adams I am following around as well. Looking into my records over on Ancestry, I totally agree: the records I believe I had added for Floyd, Kentucky William Adams belongs to the other William Adams and Fanny Meachum Group, the tell tale record I found this morning was the 1850 census record in which each man is living with their respective spouse in Floyd and Estill, respectively. So my next question to you would be what is the next plan of action in your book? I think it should be to disconnect the spouse Meachum from this profile, and change this profile death date to the 22 Jan 1852 Estill Ky death date which I saw as well. Also removing the Floyd, KY census info and moving it to the other Wm Adams profile and giving this profile the 1850 Estill, KY census with spouse Elizabeth. The final question I have for you would be would that fix everything or are the parents and children mixed up too? In other words, I am descending from the John Elijah Adams son of William and Fanny Meachum, and the Floyd Ky area, so I am wondering how we would go about fixing that too, since he is not descended from the Estill, KY Wm Penn Adams, but the Adams-9045 from Floyd, Ky. In other words, how do you know Nathaniel Adams and Ann Littlejohn is the correct parents for Floyd, Ky Adams? I thought it was the Joshua Adams and Phoebe Easley parents of the Floyd, KY Adams, again similar to you, based on my DNA matches... however it does seem like this was a very Large family so while I have many, many DNA matches to this family, they are definitely hard to sort out, etc. Tell me what you think we should do to correct this, I would love to work together on it.

Would love to work with you!

I agree that the first step should be for you tp proceed with this step you outlines: "I think it should be to disconnect the spouse Meachum from this profile, and change this profile death date to the 22 Jan 1852 Estill Ky death date which I saw as well. Also removing the Floyd, KY census info and moving it to the other Wm Adams profile and giving this profile the 1850 Estill, KY census with spouse Elizabeth."

Meanwhile, I will work on the next step of questions posed to see if I can articulate how I got to William-9045.

I think it makes sense for us to designate Adams-9045 as the William Adams who appears in Floyd County, Kentucky, in 1850, but the Find A Grave memorial 235040309 for the supposed Estill KY W.P. Adams does not contain any gravestone image or cite any sources for the claims in it. Before we make any edits, we should try to find reliable sources which support the claims relating to that person. Does anyone already have the 1850 census record for the Estill KY W.P. Adams? That would be a good place to start.

Following the DNA match I am working on Adams-9045 is son of Nathaniel Adams and Anne Dorcas LittleJohn. I have DNA matches to two of William's daughters so right now I am tending to think I am on the correct path!

Adams-57831 and Adams-25376 appear to represent the same person because: Accidentally created duplicated profile when adding my ancestor to the tree and the match didn't pop up.
