Biography

'The origin of the Adams family lies within the pretty little country village of Humberstone, some three kilometres from Leicester. It has now been swallowed up by the city of Leicester, becoming a not so pretty suburb. Thomas was the grandfather of Thomas Adams (1811-1882), who emigrated to Australia. The patriarch Thomas Adams was baptised in 1753 in Humberstone, where he was raised, married, had children, worked, as a farm labourer and shepherd, and died. He was illiterate as was his wife and later, the children of the marriage. When he was 25 years of age, he married his 21 year old cousin, Mary Brotherhood on 8 Nov 1778. Mary was born in 1757. Her father was Thomas Adams, the uncle of Thomas Adams.'
