Biography

Francis was born in 1844. He died in 1876 at the age of 32.

Francis served during the Civil War with the 3rd State Militia, Cavalry (1st Organization), U-Z and 3d State Militia, Cavalry (2d Organization).

Parents: Eli Adams I 1793 - 1857 and Elizabeth (Shaw) Adams 1802 - 1894.

Francis was married two times.

Spouse #1: Margaret E. (Carnes) Jefferson, Adams 1845 - 1924 They were married 5/4/1868 in Black Hawk, Iowa. Per Iowa, County Marriages, 1838 - 1934. Findagrave #11844879

1. Orley Adams 1875 - 1876

Francis married pretty Mary Magill on 3/4/1871. She was the step daughter of John Buser, a close neighbor. Two children were born to them, James Eli and Orley. They made their home on land just North of the Phi Adams farm. Here he farmed until his health left him because of consumption. He died 7/21/1876 and was buried in Greenhill Cemetery. Their son Orley died in infancy. Mary Magill was born 11/18/1852. She later married John Powden of Crawford County and by him had three children, William, Fred and Frank. "Aunt Mary" died 4/2/1937 and she was buried in the New Robinson Cemetery.

Son, James Eli born abt. 1872 became a railroad telegraph operator. While working for the Frisco Railroad in Seymour, Missouri he met and married Lena Kauhnel. They had three children, Glenn, Orley and Llewellyn. He did abt. 1931 in Phoenix, Arizona. He and his wife are buried there. Written by Roy Clifford Adams, 1955.

Research Notes

The above says his son, James Eli was the child with Mary Magill. No 1st marriage is mentioned for Francis. Needs more research.
