2 April 1930, the Adams family grew cotton and did general farming in Clouds Cove, Madison, Alabama. The household was comprised of Alton, Mollie and daughters, Emmie Lou and Mildred.
1940 was a difficult year for the family, as Mollie Bell Adams (Mildred's mother) was now 50 and head of household. Henry L. Russell, her son, had returned home to farm, bringing his wife, three children and a step-son with him. The family, including 16 year old daughter, Mildred, and son Hobson, also gathered around Mollie, who was shown as "widowed" on the census form.
