He married Frances Low at Barrington in 1775.[3]Their children were John, Newdigate/Nudigate, Rachel, Samuel, Ebenezer, Joseph and Nathaniel Adams

Research Notes

One researcher has suggested that Nudigate's mother was Elizabeth Nudigate baptized 1716, daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah (Lynde) Newdigate.

Nudigate appears as head of household in Barrington in the 1774 census of Rhode Island[5]. His household distribution and inferred attributions are

  • one white male over 16: Newdigate
  • one white male under 16: unknown
  • three white females over 16: sisters Chloe and Sarah and mother Elizabeth
  • one black male over 16: perhaps Cuff Adams, an enslaved man[6]

I too have seen evidence that John Adam's third wife was Elizabeth Newdigate, daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah (Lynde) Newdigate. Elizabeth may have married first a Westgate, as she would have been 35 when she married John Adams, which would have been late for a first marriage.
