He married 2) Kate Huston at New Norfolk in 1870. Together they became the parent of six children : Frank Bertram Adams, Gerald Adrian Reeve Adams, Helen Adams, Kathleen Mary Adams, Madoline Beatrice Adams, Raymond Adams, Gilbert Waynflete Adams.

MR. ROBERT PATTEN ADAMS.
Mr. Robert Patten Adams was born in March, 1831, and was educated at Marlock Grammar School, and at King's College School, London. He entered at the Middle Temple in 1851, and was called to the bar in 1854. Mr. Adams then came to Tasmania, and was called to the bar here in 1856. He subsequently became chairman of Quarter Sessions, and a Commissioner of the Court of Requests for the northern division of Tasmania. Mr. Adams was returned as member of the House of Assembly for Hobart, at the elections held in 1859-61, '62, and '66. He became Solicitor-General in 1867, and held the appointment until 1887, when he was appointed a puisne judge, and retired from the bench in 1898, on a pension of £600 a year.
