Mary Jane was born in Ireland on December 16, 1837.. She was the daughter of James Adamson and Ann Pennington

Mary Jane departed Ireland with her family aboard the ship "Glenmore" in January of 1847. She arrived at the port of New York, USA on February 9, 1847. Mary Jane and her family later settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Mary Jane Married John J. McKinley in 1860 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They resided at 2802 N. 2nd Street with their two children.

Mary died on January 1, 1907 and was buried January 7, 1907 at Greenwood Cemetery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
