Biography

Michael Ian Adamson was born on 1 June 1895. His parents, Reverend Henry Adamson and Marianne Burke, had six children. His siblings were brothers Henry, Frank, Robert, Philip and his sister Marguerite.

When the 1st World War broke out Michael was single and living in Kirwee, Canterbury, New Zealand. He enlisted and served as a Private with the Canterbury Infantry Battalion, 6th Reinforcements. His next of kin was recorded as Henry Adamson (father), P.O. Box 241, Christchurch, New Zealand. His brothers Frank and Robert also enlisted and served in the War.

EMBARKATION DETAILS WW1 14 Aug 1915-19 September 1915 from Wellington, New Zealand to Suez, Egypt, HMNZT 27. Vessel was Willochra.

Michael was wounded in action on 29 March 1918, and died the next day. He was 23 years of age.

His brother Frank died seven months later in October 1918, killed in action.

Etaples Military Cemetery, Etaples, Departement du Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France. Reference: XXXIII. A. 3[1]
