Ansel was born about 1787. He was the son of Thomas Adcock. He passed away about 1885.
Ansel (1797-1885) married Elizabeth (1801-1861) and was listed in the Muhlenburg, KY censuses from 1840-1870. It is possible that he was in Montgomery Co., IL in 1830. Also, he may be the same man as “Ancil Adcock” who served in the War of 1812 in Brown’s Regt, East Tennessee Volunteers.
He named his oldest son “Thomas” and another he named “Archibald Mooreman Adcock”. This strange middle name may be the key that connects Ansel to Thomas, Thomas to Henry.
An interesting story about Ansel is that after his wife's death, Ansel moved with his daughter, Mary, and her husband, William Jones, to Gallatin Co., IL. In the year 1885, the family fell ill to influenza. Ansel was the only one well enough to go to town for the doctor and get medicine. He left on foot, never to return. They found him the next morning in a snow bank frozen to death. He is buried in New Zion Cemetery, Gallatin, IL. [1]
