Biography

Maria Esther Addison was born in 1857 at Gravesend, Milton, Kent, England, UK.. She was a daughter of William Addison and Susannah Martin. They appear to have at least fifteen children. According to the death record of her son in 1879 there were two males and one female deceased by that year.

There could be births and deaths in England; none of that has been confirmed. Age on 1861 English Census UK., show she was 3 years of age; on shipping list to Queensland she was age 9 years in 1866; other sources are confusing.

Shipping records reveal she was named Maria Addison; age 9 years; arrived in Moreton Bay on the ship "Eastern Empire" on 14 September 1866. Her parents William age 34 years; Susannah 29 years and four siblings were six of three hundred and seventy two souls on board.

Names- The name Esta became a pet name by her family and it was added to Maria under various forms of spelling. She registered in 1903 to 1913 on the Commonwealth electoral roll as Esther Lax, that was the most familiar spelling

She married William Lax in 1882 at Queensland, Australia.^[1]

Maria Addison is the name on her marriage certificate, she married William Lax and they had nine children; Maria had one named- William Charles Warburton Addison, he was her first child, his father's name was not on the birth record. The following nine issue for Maria and William Lax were named James Henry Lax, Susan Lax, John Alfred [Jack] Lax, George Albert Lax, Joseph Arthur Lax, Leslie Frank Lax, Fred Lax, Emily Amelia Lax and Alice May Lax.

She passed away on 4 April 1929 at Brisbane, Queensland.^[2]
